It's not like I could do anything about it anyway, they just suffer me there rather than welcome me
Ah, whatever dude. I'm heading off back now to annoy them rather than you.

What was the gist of the post?
I'm actually interested in this because I'm pretty sure I know how few people can do it.

My brain has become fatty and rather flaccid living here, it's true.

Well, really. "A few beers in Compton"? I'm in LA occasionally, but I never find myself in Compton. Who could it be? I'm clueless.

Where is the bubble? There's no speculation on anything right now. Speculation causes bubbles, and if you're not in Gold then you're fine.

In the US, there are now a number of people living in tents and cars.
I actually live in the US now so I'm in quite a good position to judge employment fudges.
Quick precis:
Most things are kinda shit right now. Economy is picking up - equities aren't just the gambling thing that some people would like you to believe, there are real profit/loss balance sheets behind that. There will be more jobs over the next couple of years, and I hope that this will ease the current pain of American workers.
Political asshattery:
Obama, if this economy recovers, will be the Democrat's Reagan.

Unemployment isn't a perfect metric for economic strength. Germany consistently runs 15-20% post-unification yet they're a very strong export economy.

It's a valid question. The US excludes inveterate welfare-claimers, as does the UK.

Does the UK do that funny math thing when calculating it?
The long-term unemployed? Yeah, it does that too. We have similar fudges though, so published figures are comparable.
I was loving it when it was $2 to the GBP. I was king of california then. I'm hoping that the EU recovery (which is strong) will buoy the UK and the exchange rate will hop up again. That's kinda selfish, I know.
From what I'm seeing in the tech industry, there is a recovery - definitely in tech, and that's globally.

Choose your metric.
GDP growth? Unemployment? Size? Export deficit?
Or just choose the one which is (supposedly) the barometer of these things: currency equivalence.
The US and UK have been hovering around 1.5GBP to the $ for a while now.

CWCEO is a funny case. He's supposed to pay restitution for the software company investment scam (no one gave a fuck about the My So Called Life lunch boxes) but since his new girlfriend is his boss, she only pays him a pittance.
I'm sure he'll come up with a new scam sooner or later.
Now, what is this about UKKate?????
Oh, CWCEO won't have learned his lesson, I'm sure. He'll just be more sophisticated and probably get away with it this time.
UKKate was great. She originally got deported for overstaying a work visa. So, she can't enter the country legally.
So, Kate decides to fly to Canada and swim over. She does this. Turns up at a random house (no planning in this, like having an accomplice) and says she's lost and can she use a phone. The homeowners are suspicious and call the police - because she's wearing a swimsuit and dripping wet. She's summarily re-deported.
There were several news articles about it which if it wasn't so late I'd try to google up.
