No, I'm actually very well rounded beyond engineering. Almost completed an English major (decent grades, not spectacular) and got a degree in tech writing. I worked as a trainer and teacher for years. I am an expert in .net, Oracle, SQL Server, etc. I know those skills are worthless now because I didn't work with them in a long time. My last programming job was over three years ago.

I also know how to fix my own car, wire a house and do plumbing. I don't want to do shit work like that for a living, however.

I invested a plethora of time and effort into my education, and because of a few potholes along the way I feel for all intents and purposes my life is now ruined. I may end up in the same employment straits as some 40 yo drug addict who eeked thru a GED program.

Every EE job I see wants 3 years experience in Electrical Engineering. If they don't see it on the resume, they put it in the round file. Believe me, I know my electronics very well, I can design a phase locked loop or 5 pole filter in my sleep, but no one gives a shit unless you have experience in the field. I troubleshoot cars and find problems in minutes after looking at a diagram. (No, I don't want to be a car mechanic but I could).


In addition, I have tons of trev programming experience, databases, Java, sql, Visual basic/C++ fuck fuck...so what. I taught myself php, javascript, jquery etc. I practically offered companies I would work for free. I sent god knows how many resumes to companies in NYC and Albany, got nothing. Why? because the past 8 years I made shitty career choices. Nothing in the world could erase that. I'm not going to lie, from what a few agencies told me they check references top to bottom now before they hire you.
